Developing a Support Model for Veterans

Our shelter in Lviv was created in response to a very specific need: to give people a safe place, warmth, food, support, and the feeling that they are not alone.

Over time, the Support and Protection Center has grown from a volunteer initiative into an organization capable of implementing humanitarian and social programs in the Lviv region and other parts of Ukraine. We have supported internally displaced persons, helped children’s homes, delivered humanitarian aid, organized evacuations, and provided psychological support.

Today, one of our areas of work is supporting veterans and their families.

We understand that after injury, treatment, or rehabilitation, a person often needs more than medical care. They need a place where they can regain strength, restore everyday stability, receive guidance, find a route to the services they need, and gradually move from crisis toward a calmer life.

That is why we are developing a supported living model for veterans.

This is not just accommodation. It is an environment that provides:

  • safe housing
  • meals and basic daily-life support
  • social assistance
  • psychological support
  • help with navigation to relevant services
  • a space for communication, rest, and everyday recovery

The model includes 12 rooms and can support up to 18-20 veterans at the same time. With stable operation, up to 260 people could go through this support model each year.

For us, veteran support cannot remain only words. Reintegration is daily work: organized living conditions, accessible transportation, help with complex issues, and the opportunity to be among people without pressure or formality.

In 2024-2026, more than 100 veterans have already received support through our work, including in cooperation with Superhumans. Now we want to scale this area and make it a sustainable part of the veteran support ecosystem in the Lviv region.

We are offering a ready pilot model of public-civic partnership: the Support and Protection Center provides operational implementation, space management, and daily support, while partners can strengthen the model through coordination, funding, transportation, meals, logistics, and specialized services.

Our goal is simple and deeply responsible: to create a space where a veteran, after a difficult experience, has not only a roof over their head, but also human support, everyday stability, and a real path back to active life.

We already have the experience, team, partnerships, and space. Now we are looking for partners ready to help launch and develop this model systematically.

You can support the project financially, by sharing information, or through partnership.

Together, we can launch a ready solution now instead of building a new system from scratch.
